The fourth-seeded Barlow girls soccer team was upset by No. 12 Bethel 1-0 on penalty kicks Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Class L state tournament.
The Falcons conclude the season at 14-4-2 while Bethel moves on to the semifinals to face No. 8 Farmington, which defeated No. 17 Brookfield 3-0 on Tuesday.

Barlow couldn't score over 80 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods despite a 25-6 edge in shots.
Bethel prevailed 8-6 over two rounds of penalty to reach the state finals for the first time in school history.

Emily Marshall and Chelsea Cutler combined to make five saves for Barlow. Bethel's Alicia Alves stopped 10 shots.
Now one game away from a trip to the state finals, the sixth-seeded Barlow field hockey team takes on No. 7 Branford in the Class M semifinals on Wednesday at Fairfield Ludlowe (6 p.m.).
The Falcons (15-3-2-0) advanced with a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 3 seed Avon while Branford upset No. 2 Farmington, 1-0.
The winner of Wednesday takes on top seed Darien or No. 4 Wilton in the finals on Saturday at a time to be determined. The FCIAC rivals will clash in the other semifinals. Darien is seeking a fifth consecutive state championship.
The second-seeded Barlow girls volleyball team takes on No. 3 Lauralton Hall in the semifinals of the Class M tournament on Wednesday at Fairfield Warde at 5 p.m.
In the other semifinal, No. 5 Rocky Hill takes on ninth-seeded Sheehan.
Barlow (20-3) is looking to reach the state final for the second straight year, losing to RHAM 3-1 in last year's championship match.
