With the CIAC announcing Thursday it has postponed the start of its state tournaments to allow  extra time for conferences to complete their own playoff tournaments, the SWC field hockey and girls soccer championships are back on.

Monday had been the start date for state tournament play, but the CIAC pushed it back, giving the SWC time to conduct finals in those two sports.

Volleyball and field hockey state championship games now will take place Nov.  18-19. Girls and boys soccer championship games will be played the following weekend.

Coming off back-to-back last-minute wins over Oxford and New Fairfield, the Weston football team may have an outside chance to challenge for a state playoff spot in Class S.

Currently 5-2 and riding a three-game winning streak, the Falcons visiit winless Notre Dame of Fairfield on Saturday in a 2:30 p.m. kickoff. Weston then finishes the season against second-ranked Masuk and Barlow.

The Trojans don't figure to beat Masuk, but wins over Notre Dame-Fairfield and Barlow would put them at 7-3, and that might be enough to get them into the playoffs in Class S.

Weston currently is ninth and among a logjam of eight teams with two losses.

Barlow's game against Bunnell, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed to Monday at a time to be determined.

The Falcons improved to 3-4 with a 31-20 victory over Oxford last weekend.
