After getting routed by offensive juggernaut Masuk and UConn-bound quarterback Casey Cochran 55-12 last week, the Barlow football team (1-3) may have an easier time on Saturday when its hosts Immaculate (1:30 p.m.).

Immaculate has dropped all four games by a combined score of 164-40 and is coming off a 34-13 loss to New Milford. Barlow has lost two straight since defeating Notre Dame-Fairfield 41-14 for its only win.

The Barlow High School varsity field hockey team will be Playing 4 the Cure on Friday at 7 p.m. against Newtown at the Joel Barlow stadium field.

The Falcons will wear pink jerseys and use a pink ball to support breast cancer research while honoring those who have battled this disease.. In addition, the team will be selling baked goods and pink bracelets. Funds raised will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation and the American Cancer Society.

The Falcons suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday, falling 3-2 to Pomperaug. Samantha Macchio and Kerrianne Gibney scored for Barlow, which dropped to 8-1-2-0.

The Play 4 the Cure movement was created by Mystx Field Hockey Club founder, director and head coach Tina Reinprecht in Feastervile,
Pennsylvania in 2006. The benefit was dedicated to mothers of players in the Mystx FH Club who fought the fight against breast cancer.

Play 4 the Cure states that breast cancer affects one out of every
eight women in the United States. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure
states that in 2011 it is estimated that among U.S. women there will
be 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer and there will be
39,520 breast cancer deaths.
