The home stretch of Barlow's field hockey season kicked off with a come- from-behind 2-1 victory over SWC rival Immaculate on Tuesday in a match that dampened the Mustangs' Senior Night and has important league playoff implications.

Barlow began the match in a sluggish manner, according to coach Erika Prefenno.

"We came out slow and seemed too cautious in trying to get a feel for Immaculate," Prefenno said. "We did, however, turn it up at the end of the match when it counted most and this team is ready for the balance of the season."

The Mustangs scored in the first half when Barlow keeper Sam Scavo found herself outside of the goal area, leaving the Immaculate attack to tap in the easy score.

Barlow contained the hosts for the balance of the half, but was not able to mount the constant offensive attack which has been the team's norm this fall. The second half was a different story.

The Falcons came out in force on offense, creating constant scoring opportunities on each offensive run. Senior co-captains Brittany Lofgren, Samantha Macchio and Katherine Acocella led the offensive charge and were set up well by the fourth senior co-captain Anne Dolan, who placed field strikes well to set up the goal-oriented attacks.

The effort paid off late in the match as Kerianne Gibney and Isabelle Bennedetto combined for two late game goals to quiey the Immaculate faithful.

Barlow (9-2-2) already has qualified for the CIAC state playoffs and is in a solid position to earn a high seed in the SWC playoffs, which kick off the end of next week.

There are still important games coming up, which will help decide seedings for both the SWC's and CIAC's. Barlow will be home for the remainder of the season with a matches set for Friday at 5 p.m. versus Watertown in the Play for the Cure game, which was previously postponed due to weather. All monies raised will go to support the ongoing efforts for breast cancer awareness

Barlow finishes the regular season with back-to-back games on Monday against (3:45 p.m.) and Newtown on Wednesday (6 p.m.) in the annual Senior Night game.
