The Joel Barlow field hockey team ended Bethel's bid for a CIAC state playoff spot by turning back the Wildcats 1-0 on Monday afternoon at Barlow.
The Falcons' attack were led by the senior corps of co-captains Anne Dolan, Samantha Macchio, Katherine Acocella and Brittany Lofgren. Much of the play was in the Bethel zone, but the pesky defense kept the Falcons from scoring until Macchio tipped in Lofgren's cross midway through the second half.

Barlow's defense led by seniors Erin Sullivan and Rose Fenwick, along with junior Colleen Yost turned back several Bethel attacks and junior Samantha Scavo continued her dominance in goal with two shots in notching her seventh shutout of the season.
The Falcons are 12-2-2, their best overall regular season record in about two decades, and are preparing for their final home game of the season, a Senior Night contest versus SWC rival Newtown at the Barlow stadium on Tuesday at p.m.
