Weston-Barlow Sports Roundup: Feb. 10

The boys basketball team looks to clinch a state tournament berth on Friday when the Falcons visit Newtown (7 p.m.).

Barlow snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 54-37 victory over Pomperaug. The Falcons improved to 7-10 and now need to win only one of their three remaining games to secure a postseason spot.

Meanwhile, Weston hosts Immaculate (16-0), which is four wins away from an undefeated regular season, at 7 p.m.

The Trojans suffered a 49-38 loss to Stratford on Tuesday, their seventh defeat in nine games. After a 6-1 start, Weston has slipped to 8-8, but is assured on a trip to the state tournament.

Immaculate is coming off a 68-58 victory over Oxford.

In girls action Friday, Barlow hosts Newtown and Weston visits Immaculate in 7 p.m. contests.

The Falcons (12-6) will be looking to get back track after their six-game winning streak was snapped with a 64-56 loss at Pomperaug on Tuesday.

Weston (7-11) stopped a four-game losing streak with a 52-35 victory over Stratford on Tuesday and needs to win one of its final two games to secure a state tournament appearance.

The Trojans conclude their regular season on Tuesday when they host rival Barlow.

They would like, however, to get the eighth win out of the way against Immaculate, which is just 5-13, although the Mustangs are coming off a 48-32 victory over Oxford on Monday.
