The Joel Barlow girls basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the SWC playoffs Saturday with a 58-54 win over fifth-seeded Newtown.
The sixth-seeded Falcons will take on No. 2 seed Pomperaug (19-2), a 63-39 winner over Kolbe Cathedral, in the semifinals on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Weston.
In the other semifinal at 8 p.m., top seed Lauralton Hall faces Masuk. Lauralton advanced with a 73-47 victory over No. 8 seed and Masuk rallied from a 13-point deficit for a 37-35 win over Notre Dame of Fairfield.
