The sixth-seeded Joel Barlow girls basketball team pulled off a 58-54 upset of third-seeded Newtown in the quarterfinals of the South-West Conference playoffs on Saturay.
The Falcons (14-7) will need an even bigger upset on Tuesday when they take on No. 2 seed Pomperaug in the semifinals at Weston at 6 p.m. The Panthers (19-2) advanced with a 63-39 win over No. 7 Kolbe Cathedral.

In the other half of the draw, top seed Lauralton Hall (20-1) faces No. 5 Masuk (13-8) at 8 p.m.Luralton Hall advanced with a 63-37 win over over No. 8 Bunnell and Masuk rallied from a 13-point deficit to get past Notre Dame of Fairfield, 37-35.
For Barlow, Brittany Dumas scored 21 points points against Newtown while Brittany Shea added 12 and Drew Bartro contributed seven.

Barlow avenged a 71-51 loss to Newtown on Feb. 11

The Weston and Barlow boys basketball teams conclude their regular seasons on the road Tuesday.
The Trojans (11-8) will be tuning up for postseason play at Bunnell while Barlow (7-12) visits Kolbe Cathedral needing a win to qualify for the state tournament.
Weston has won two in a row, including a 60-45 triumph over Newtown on Friday, but will have a tough test at Bunnell, which is still in the running for the No. 2 seed in the SWC playoffs.
The Bulldogs (13-6) have reeled off three straight wins, including a recent 62-61 victory over powerful Kolbe Cathedral.
Barlow has been off since suffering a tough 40-39 loss against Weston last Tuesday. Kolbe-Cathedral (17-2) has lost its last two, including Friday's 61-43 setback at Immaculate in a showdown for first place in the SWC
