The Joel Barlow girls basketball team suffered a 65-44 loss to second-seeded Pomperaug in the semifinals of the SWC playoffs on Tuesday at Weston.
Brittney Dumas scored 17 points and Drew Bartro added 10 for the Falcons, who will take a 14-8 record into the state tournament.
Barlow kept it close early, only trailing 11-8 after the first quarter, but the Panthers began to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the Falcons 19-6 to open a 30-14 halftime lead.

Gabbie Holness scored 24 points for Pomperaug (20-2) while Haili Welton and Hannah Metcalf added 14 and 11, respectively.
Pomperaug will take on top seed Lauralton Hall (21-1) in Thursday's championship game at 7:30 p.m..

Lauralton Hall, which lost to Newtown in last year's SWC championship games, reached the final for the second consecutive season with a 55-44 victory over Masuk.

The Weston boys basketball team ended the regular season with a big win Tuesday, a 63-61 victory over Bunnell in Stratford
Lyle Mitchell scored 16 points, including the winning basket with under 10 seconds remaining, and grabed 14 rebounds for the Trojans, who concluded the regular season 12-8 overall and 8-6 in the SWC.
Max Molinsky and Charlie DiPasquale each added 10 points for Weston, which will take a four-game winning streak into the SWC quarterfinals on Saturday.
Matt Nolting scored 16 points and Isaac Vann added 11 for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 12-8 and 11-3.
Bunnell jumped out to a 19-13 lead after the first quarter at home and extended it to 36-25 at the half, but the Trojans stormed back in the second half.
They outscored Bunnell 18-11 in the third quarter to pull within 47-43, then finished the game with a 20-14 spurt in the final period.

The state tournament hopes of the Barlow boys basketball team ended Tuesday as the Falcons suffered a 60-46 loss to Kolbe Cathedral in Bridgeport.
Barlow concluded the season at 7-13 while Kolbe Cathedral snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 18-2 heading into the SWC playoffs.
Jake Lightman scored 12 points and Nolan Stauffer added 10 for the Falcons, who held a 26-25 lead at the half.o
But the Cougars outscored Barlow 36-21 in the second half, including 17-10 in the third quarter.
D.J. Perry scored 22 points and Ian Gardner added 12 for Kolbe Cathedral.
Barlow ended the season with a three-game losing streak and dropped six of its final seven contests.

For all the Staples-Weston-Shelton boys hockey team has been through this season, the Wreckers still have a chance to get back to the state tournament.
The Wreckers, who have been decimated by injuries this season, snapped a 10-game losing streak on Monday with a 6-0 victory over East Catholic.
Staples improved to 7-11 and needs to win one of its final two games to secure a berth in the Division III state tournament. Last season, the Wreckers reached the state final losing to Watertown-Pomperaug 4-0 in the finals.

Staples hosts Greenwich (3-16) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
If the Wreckers don't beat the Cardinals, they will get another chance on Saturday when the host Cheshire, which blanked Fairfield 2-0 on Monday.
