Weston-Barlow Sports Roundup: Feb. 27

The Barlow boys hockey team suffered a 6-3 loss to Lyman Hall on Saturday at the Northford Pavilion.

Pat Callahan scored two goals and Justin MacDougall added one for the Falcons, who dropped to 11-8. Michael Mattson picked up a pair of assists.

Barlow concludes its regular season on Tuesday against Division II power Milford at the Milford Pavilion at 6 p.m.

The Falcons already have qualified for the Division III state tournament,  which begins on March 5.

The 13th-seed girls basketball team (13-7) has earned a home game in the first round of the Class L state tournament and will host No. 20 Fitch (11-9) on Tuesday

The winner of that game will face No. 4 seed Berlin (17-3) in the second round on Friday. The Redcoats received first-round bye

Weston (8-12) is the 30th seed in Class M and plays at No. 3 Ellington (18-2) in the first round on Monday.

Should the Trojans spring the upset, they would face either No. 14 Trinity Catholic or No. 19 Kolbe Cathedral in the second round on Thursday.

The Staples-Weston-Shelton boys hockey team may be getting hot heading into postseason play.

The Wreckers closed out their regular season on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Cheshire at the Milford Ice Pavilion and will take a three-game winning streak into the Division III state tournament, which begins March. 5.

Staples (9-11) started 6-1, but then suffered a 10-game losing streak as the team was decimated by injuries, but the Wreckers have gotten some of their injured players back.
