Weston Swimming Alum to Compete at World Championships in China

Sophie Angus will represent Canada in the FINA World Short Course Championships in China this December

Weston Swimming is proud to announce that Sophie Angus, a Weston Swimming alum, has been named a member of the Canadian National Team and will be competing at the 2018 FINA World Short Course Championships in China this December. Angus swims for Northwestern University and trained this summer with Weston Swimming before the Canadian Trials this July where she secured her spot. This accomplishment follows qualifying for both US and Canadian Olympic Trials for the last Olympics.

“I have been part of Weston Swimming since my very first days of racing. I learned all my swimming fundamentals as well as my current technique in Weston and feel so fortunate to have had the personalized training that Weston provided,” claimed Sophie Angus. “The club, coaches and my teammates have made my swimming journey so much fun. There is absolutely no way I could have done this without them… I feel proud to still wear my Weston swim cap!”

Head Coach Ryan Loechner and Coach Chris Riley stated, “Early on we recognized Sophie's raw talent as a swimmer but what really made her stand out among her peers, was her commitment level to the details in her training. As her coaches, it is both exciting and rewarding to be a small part of Sophie's accomplishments. We are extremely proud of her and we cannot wait to tune in live to watch her compete at Worlds.”
