Weston Swimming Celebrates Team's Success

Weston Swimming held their team banquet last week at Aspetuck Country Club and celebrated a very successful year. With a team of swimmers ranging in age from 7 to 18, success ranges from being able to swim a legal 25 yard butterfly to to making cuts to compete at the national level - all while having a great time.

"Our banquet is a wonderful opportunity for our entire swim family to come together and to look back at where the swimmers started and where they are now," stated Weston Swimming President Michelle Bradley. "We had an impressive year with 25 swimmers breaking over 40 individual event team records and about 20 relay team records altogether." Head Age Group Coach John Scaldini agrees, "Our team records are fast times. To break so many, especially in the age group of under 14, is very encouraging to the future success of our program. I'm proud of these kids. They stepped up to the challenges we gave them."

The banquet also serves to honor Weston Swimming's graduating seniors. All of the six graduating seniors will be competing at the college level next year. "We will miss our seniors next year. Each of them showed great leadership and persistence both in and out of the pool. I am confident that this exceptionally bright group of swimmers will do well both in their swimming and academic pursuits. They have demonstrated a high level of commitment to swimming, and more importantly, their education," claimed Head Coach Ryan Loechner." Our team goal is to produce happy, confident and well-rounded athletes, both in and out of the pool. This class of graduating seniors achieved this goal."

Graduating this year from the town of Weston: Nathan Katz - Washington University at St Louis, Mateusz Babinski - Roger Williams University, Josh Franco - Connecticut College, and Charlie Palsho - Dartmouth College. From New Canaan: Luke Stewart - Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From Oxford: Maddie Kovach - UMass at Dartmouth.

Weston Swimming is a year-round USA Swimming team. We encourage and promote team spirit, sportsmanship, health and fitness. Swimming becomes a character-building experience, instilling confidence in our athletes. Our program inspires swimmers to dedicate themselves to achieving the highest level of competition and personal performance while also developing a life-long friends and an interest in the sport of swimming.
