Weston Swimming Spooky Sprint Spectacular

Weston Swimming, a USA Swimming club, hosts a fun intra-squad meet.

Weston Swimming hosted their first Spooky Sprint this past Sunday morning during the howling storm. A fun, intra-squad event designed for new swimmers and new swim families to become more comfortable with the ins-and-outs of competitive swimming. "It can be a bit scary for a new swimmer and new swim parents at a meet," stated Head Coach Ryan Loechner. "The Spooky Sprint was a great way to make everyone realize what a blast swim meets are."

Loads of ghosts and goblins hopped in the pool competing both in individual races and in a highly contested pumpkin relay, where groups of four swimmers had to individually carry, drag or push along a pumpkin to the other end of the pool and hand off to their teammate. Head Age Group Coach John Scaldini joked, "We are looking into whether our swimmers broke the state or even world record for a pumpkin relay. It was great to see the kids have fun and try to figure out the best way to drag the pumpkin 25 yards across the water. There was some creative solutions and fast swims!"

"The Spooky Sprint was attended by our youngest swimmers through our high school team members. The older kids lined up our younger ones for their races, helped them with their caps and cheered them on. Our swim parents helped time, officiate, run computers and do just about everything that is needed for a swim meet. The Spooky Sprint was a fabulous way for our Weston Swimming family to get together and have
fun," said Weston Swimming Board Member Nicole Richardt Bhandari who spearheaded the Spooky Sprint.
