Weston Swimming Swimmers Earn Top State Honors
Almost twenty percent of Weston Swimming swimmers earned Top 16 or Scholar Athlete awards
Weston Swimming was well represented in Connecticut Swimming's Annual Award Banquet this past Sunday. This all-state celebration honors the top 16 swimmers in each swimming event along with high school Scholar Athletes who achieve a 3.5 minimum GPA and compete in a CT Senior Championship Meet. "I'm immensely proud of our kids and our program," stated Head Coach Ryan Loechner. "About 20% of our kids qualified to be recognized at CT Swimming's Award Banquet. That is an incredible percentage for any swim team and it just might be the highest in the state."
Swimmers who achieved Top 16 honors are Emilia Bailey, Alexandra Bradley, Katherine Franco, Allen Hawkins, Alexa Pappas, Nicole Linell, Katherine Linell, Sarah Franco, Charlotte Proceller, Samantha Kim, Allison Pocsik, Charlie Palsho, Luke Stewart, Nathan Katz, Oscar Peterson, Sophie Angus, Samantha McStocker, Josh Franco and Stefan Garbee. Swimmers that earned Scholar Athlete recognition are Nathan Katz, Charlie Palsho, Megan Phelan and Luke Stewart.
"It is a testament to the strength and the high quality of our program to have so many talented swimmers achieve top honors. We have one of the lowest swimmer to coach ratios and we have a strong focus on technical mastery -- all the way from our 8 and unders through our national swimmers," said Weston Swimming President Michelle Bradley. Weston Swimmers work hard in the pool to achieve these top times, but it isn't all work. "It is very important that the kids enjoy themselves in practice and in meets," claimed Head Age Group Coach John Scaldini. "Our coaches try really hard at finding that right balance of hard work and fun."
