“The Bridge Builder” A Poem by Will Allen Dromgoole

An old man going a lone highway,
Came, at the evening cold and gray,
To a chasm vast and deep and wide.
Through which was flowing a sullen tide
The old man crossed in the twilight dim,
The sullen stream had no fear for him;
But he turned when safe on the other side
And built a bridge to span the tide.

“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,
“You are wasting your strength with building here;
Your journey will end with the ending day,
You never again will pass this way;
You’ve crossed the chasm, deep and wide,
Why build this bridge at evening tide?”

The builder lifted his old gray head;
“Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,
“There followed after me to-day
A youth whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm that has been as naught to me
To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be;
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building this bridge for him!”

We hope to learn more in the coming weeks and will communicate all pertinent updates as they come in. As a reminder, it is important to thoroughly document all damage, repairs and insurance claims and maintain detailed records. What to do with empty flowerpots?
    Fall mums will be coming soon and that means lots of empty flowerpots again. Consider the following when looking for ways to get rid of them:

    If you are unable to donate your colored plastic nursery pots and planter trays place them in the TRASH. As a reminder, all black plastic is NOT accepting in the mixed recycling stream. Broken ceramic and clay pots also belong in the trash.

    Parks and Recreation
    Our Parks and Recreation Afterschool/WOW program flyer is up on our website and registration has begun! You’ll notice the WOW programs are now all included in this brochure and the booklet is sorted by each school. Pickleball Update
    The Town went out for bid this summer for construction of three pickleball courts at Bisceglie Park. Bids were opened on June 20 and the contract was awarded to Hinding Tennis, who have constructed many other pickleball courts. The bid came within the budgeted amount for the project. The project is being paid for with a combination of funding from the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) which is federal funding awarded to the Town as well as Park & Recreation Department fee revenue. Construction is almost complete: courts have been painted, fences are installed, and after the paint cures the court lines will be striped, the nets will be put up and then the court gates will be installed. A Noise guard is on site waiting to be hung. We are nearly there!
