One person was injured in the incident, which occurred Thursday afternoon, according to authorities. Update.

WESTPORT, CT — The injured driver of a vehicle that smashed into an apartment building at Canal Park in Westport on Thursday may have suffered a medical episode before the crash, according to police.

"Preliminary investigation suggested that some type of medical episode may have preceded and caused the accident, however it remains under investigation at this time," Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso told Patch.

As of Friday, no charges have been filed, Prezioso said, adding that the victim was treated at Norwalk Hospital.

The crash occurred at about 2:15 p.m., and no one was in the first-floor apartment at the time of the crash. After firefighters stabilized the building following the crash, the town's building inspector determined that the building remained structurally sound.

"Arriving units found that a vehicle had left the roadway, struck a parked car, and crashed into an apartment building," fire officials wrote on Facebook. "The driver was quickly evaluated and treated by Westport EMS before being transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
