The fire, which remains under investigation, was reported Sunday afternoon on Riverside Avenue.

WESTPORT, CT — A person suffered burns to his hands Sunday afternoon when he tried to extinguish a fire at a home at 408 Riverside Ave. in Westport, according to fire officials.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment after emergency personnel arrived to fight the 3:30 p.m. blaze; his condition is not available.

"The first arriving engine reported smoke and fire visible from the front right of the house," wrote Westport Assistant Fire Chief Philip Hessberger in a statement. "The fire was isolated to a three-season porch and was quickly extinguished using a hose line off the first arriving engine. The house was ventilated to remove smoke and carbon monoxide."
