Road In Westport Reopened After Fatal Crash Investigation: PD

The accident occurred Sunday morning and the road was closed for an extended period.

WESTPORT, CT — One person died after a vehicle struck a utility pole, which led to power lines falling on the car, which ignited a large fire early Sunday, Westport Police say.

Shortly before 1 a.m., the Westport Police and Fire departments responded to a large fire in the area of 57 Weston Road. Emergency responders found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames, police said. The vehicle had struck a utility pole, downing electrical wires.

The Westport Police Department Accident Investigation Team and Detective Bureau are investigating the incident and the deceased has not yet been identified.

Weston Road was closed between Sipperley’s Hill Road and Silver Brook Road for several hours but was reopened Monday morning.

After Westport police investigators cleared the scene, Weston Road remained closed as utility crews worked in the area to repair the downed pole.
