Norwalk Man, 59, Killed In 2-Vehicle Westport Crash: UPDATE

The crash occurred Monday afternoon on Saugatuck Avenue.

WESTPORT, CT — One driver was killed, and the other driver was injured, Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in the 200 block of Saugatuck Avenue, according to Westport police.

The driver who was killed was identified by police as Norwalk resident Mark Lemoult, 59, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that the driver of the other vehicle "was conscious and able to speak with emergency responders," and had to be extricated from their vehicle by firefighters before being taken to an area hospital for treatment.

No one else was in either vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, police said, but details of the crash were not disclosed. The Westport Police Department's Accident Investigation Team, with assistance from the Fairfield Police Department's Accident Investigation Team, are investigating the crash.

A portion of Saugatuck Avenue was closed for several hours following the 4:20 p.m. crash while officers investigated, but the road has since been reopened.
