100 Straight Match Wins for Staples Boys Volleyball

The winning streak of the Staples boys volleyball team has reached triple figures.
The Wreckers won their 100th consecutive match Friday night, defeating Danbury, 25-18, 25-23, 25-11, in the quarterfinals of the Class L state tournament in Westport.
Staples (20-0) has not tasted defeat since 2006, when it began its current run of four consecutive state championships. The Wreckers recently captured their eighth staight FCIAC crown.

The Wreckers, who had a bye in the first round, advanced to face No. 4 seed Glastonbury in the semifinals on Tuesday at a time and site to be determined.
Glastonbury has been tested in the tournament, winning a pair of 3-1 matches. On Friday, the Tomahawks rallied from a opening-game defeat to outlast Cheshire, 25-27 25-14 31-29 25-18.

In other half of the draw, No. 2 Southington will take on No. 3 Xavier.
