WESTPORT, CT — Three people accused of stealing items from a store in Westport before crashing their car on Interstate 95 were arrested Thursday, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Dave Wolf said employees told officers three people entered Ulta Beauty on Post Road East around 11:30 a.m. and placed items into bags they were carrying, then left the store without paying.

The suspects were last seen running towards Old Road, presumably heading toward a waiting car, Wolf said.

A short time later, the suspects' vehicle crashed on I-95 and four people ran from the car into the Saugatuck area of town. Officers immediately set up a perimeter in the area and called in a State Police K-9 officer for assistance.

"The area was methodically searched, and three of the four suspects were located and taken into custody on Treadwell Avenue," Wolf said in a news release. "If there was in fact a fourth person involved, it is believed that party has since left the area."
