The incident is one in a string of similar crimes that have plagued Westport in recent weeks.
WESTPORT, CT — An 18-year-old, 17-year-old and 16-year-old were arrested on charges of car theft, larceny and interfering with an officer early Sunday after Westport police said the trio were trying to break into vehicles in the driveway of a home in town.
The incident, one in a string of similar crimes in Westport in recent weeks, began at 4:20 a.m., when the homeowner reported the attempted break-ins.
"Almost immediately, Westport Police were on scene and observed a dark-colored vehicle in the middle of the road," wrote Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. "The officer stopped his vehicle, shined his spotlight and the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed towards the officer. The suspect vehicle swerved around the police car and fled."

The vehicle, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been reported as stolen, had its tires flattened by police "stop-sticks," but it kept going and got onto I-95 northbound. It became disabled near Exit 22, and the three suspects jumped out and ran.
"A short foot pursuit ensued, and two juveniles were quickly apprehended," Woods said. "A Westport Police K-9 officer responded, conducted a track, and found the third suspect hiding in heavy brush near the railroad tracks."

Westport police did not release the names of the juveniles, due to their ages, but they received similar charges as Ausar-Allen.
Ausar-Allen was turned over to New Haven police, who held an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on the Westport charges on Nov. 1.
