8 Injured In Fiery 8-Vehicle Crash On I-95 In Westport: FD

The crash occurred Sunday night near exit 16.

WESTPORT, CT — Eight people suffered injuries Sunday night in an eight-vehicle crash on I-95 in Westport, in which two of the vehicles caught and had to be extinguished by firefighters, according to Westport Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Cohen.

A total of five ambulances were needed to transport patients to the hospital, but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

The southbound crash occurred just before 9 p.m. near exit 16, and in addition to Westport firefighters, members of the Norwalk Fire Department, state police, Norwalk and Westport EMS and AMR ambulance personnel were also called to the scene.

"Due to damaged vehicles being located in all travel lanes, fire suppression activities, and patient treatment, I-95 South was closed and traffic was diverted off of Exit 16," Cohen said. "I-95 remained closed for just over an hour until all vehicles could be removed from the travel lanes. Connecticut State Police are currently investigating the accident."
