WESTPORT, CT — A 48-year-old Queens, New York, man was arrested on a warrant charging him with first-degree larceny in connection with the January theft of $93,000 worth of jewelry from an unnamed store in Westport, according to police.

Carlos Gonzalez was taken into custody by Westport detectives Tuesday from Rikers Island in New York, and was transported back to Westport Police Headquarters. He was held in lieu of bail of $250,000, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court at a later date.

According to authorities, the theft occurred on Jan. 25, when a man, believed to be Gonzalez, and an unidentified woman entered the jewelry store on Riverside Avenue. Patch asked police spokesperson Lt. Eric Woods for the name of the store, but he declined to disclose it.

The two viewed several pieces of jewelry that they said they were interested in buying.

"Surveillance footage from the store shows the two individuals were involved in a 'distraction-style' larceny where the duo work in tandem to distract the store worker and steal the jewelry," Woods said in a statement.

Detectives reached out to numerous law enforcement agencies to identify the suspects, and NYPD was able to identify Gonzalez, which led to his eventual warrant arrest.

As of Wednesday, the identity of the female accomplice is not known, but Woods described her as "a heavyset Hispanic female 30-35 years old with long brown hair."

Additionally, as of Wednesday, the stolen jewelry has not been recovered, according to Woods.
