Actress and Westport Resident Melissa Joan Hart Joins Gary Johnson's Libertarian Presidential Campaign

She says she would like to see America move beyond being just a two-party political system. Breaking.

WESTPORT, CT — Melissa Joan Hart, the popular actress and Westport resident, has joined the campaign of Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson as chairperson of Johnson's Connecticut effort, reports People Magazine.

"I want to break away from this two-party system and I think it's important for people to know that there's another candidate out there who really toes the line between Democrat and Republican," Hart told People. "I mean he's Libertarian. But socially he's liberal, but fiscally conservative."

On her Instagram page, she further explained her reasons for supporting Johnson, who selected former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld as his running mate.

And the comments accompanying the post, several of her fans showed their appreciation for her stance.

"I never comment on celebrity Instagrams but thank you @melissajoanhart for going against the norm and really thinking about what's best and who is best for our future," wrote meganreagan14. "If everyone would stop thinking they have to choose trump or Hilary because their vote would be wasted on a third party then it wouldn't be a wasted vote. A vote for an honest person who truly cares about our social issues and fixing the economy is never a wasted vote."

Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, says he is pleased that Hart is on board. He is hoping to garner enough polling support to be added to the presidential debates, the first of which was held without him on Monday.

In addition to acting and politics, Hart is a mother of three who also created the King of Harts clothing line with husband Mark Wilkerson.
