Afternoon School Bus Driver Shortage Hits Westport

WESTPORT, CT — Westport Public Schools is dealing with a shortage of afternoon bus drivers on Friday, officials announced.

"We want to make parents aware that we have a significant number of bus driver absences for the afternoon shift," officials wrote in a message to families Friday afternoon. "This will result in an inordinate number of combined routes in order to get students home."

How many routes are affected, and how long buses might be delayed was not disclosed.

District officials said they are doing their "best to address this acute shortage today."
