Westport Man Accused Of 'Electronic Stalking': Police

WESTPORT, CT — A 55-year-old Westport man was arrested last week on a warrant, after police said he placed an electronic tracking device in a victim's vehicle.

Brett Cohen was arrested on April 9 on a charge of electronic stalking of a domestic partner, a felony.

The case began in September 2025 when police were notified by a complainant that "they had discovered an electronic tracking device, identified as a 'YIP Tracker', in their vehicle."

YIP Trackers are typically used by owners to help find missing pets.

"The device was found in a sub-compartment located within the trunk of their car," wrote Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso in a statement. "The complainant identified a possible suspect and alleged that the device had been intentionally placed to monitor their movements. The matter was further investigated by detectives who obtained a search warrant for records associated with the device."

Police said that Cohen was identified from the records as being associated with the device, though he "denied intentionally placing the device within the vehicle."

Cohen was taken into custody on the 9th, and was released after posting bond on bail of $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on May 28.
