The commission is responsible for helping shape fire service policy, training standards and fire prevention efforts statewide. Its members work with fire service organizations to support safety and operational effectiveness across Connecticut.

"Fire Marshal Dunn’s appointment is a reflection of his professionalism, expertise, and unwavering commitment to public safety," said Westport Fire Chief Nick Marsan in a statement. "His leadership has had a lasting impact here in Westport, and I am confident he will bring that same level of dedication and insight to this important role at the state level."

Westport First Selectman Kevin Christie also praised the appointment, noting its significance for both the department and the community.

"This is a well-deserved recognition of Fire Marshal Dunn’s experience and leadership," Christie said. "His appointment not only highlights the strength of Westport’s Fire Marshal’s Office but also ensures that our community has a voice in statewide fire service discussions and decision-making."

Dunn’s role on the commission is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts in fire prevention, code enforcement and community risk reduction in Westport and across the state.
