WESTPORT, CT — The Fairfield Half Marathon will run through parts of the Green Farms area in Westport on Sunday morning, June 7, and Westport police advise that it could cause traffic delays.
"Runners will enter Westport on Greens Farms Road at the Fairfield town line, continuing to New Creek Road and onto Beachside Avenue before exiting into Southport," Westport Police Lt. Sereniti Dobson wrote in a statement. "Through traffic will be stopped or severely limited while runners make their way through town."
Motorists should expect heavy delays due to road closures along the race route; race organizers estimate that runners will enter town at approximately 8:15 a.m. and be off Westport streets by 10:15 a.m.
"The race route spans approximately three miles on Westport roads," Dobson said. "Westport emergency personnel will be stationed within the route area to respond to emergencies with minimal delays."
During that period, police encourage motorists to seek alternate routes, avoid the area if possible.
"Residents living along the route should also expect difficulty entering or exiting driveways during periods of heavy runner activity," Dobson said.
The race is sponsored by Athletic Brewing Company. For additional traffic information, contact the Westport Police Department.
