Westport Country Playhouse, Library Partner On Community Read Of Agatha Christie Classic

WESTPORT, CT — Westport residents will have an opportunity to explore Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd through a joint program presented by The Westport Library and Westport Country Playhouse.

The program marks the 100th anniversary of Christie’s detective novel and is part of the Library’s “We Read” initiative.

Mark Shanahan, artistic director of Westport Country Playhouse, adapted The Murder of Roger Ackroyd for the stage in association with Agatha Christie Ltd. as the official stage version of the novel. Shanahan will discuss the adaptation process during a program at The Westport Library on July 1 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Room 210.

The discussion will focus on the process of adapting the novel for a theatrical production.

Copies of the script are available for checkout at the Library’s patron services desk. Participants are encouraged to read the script before attending the event.

The stage adaptation, Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, will be directed by Shanahan and presented at Westport Country Playhouse from July 14 through Aug. 1.

Set in an English village in 1926, the story follows detective Hercule Poirot as he investigates a death that uncovers a network of secrets and deception.

The Library and Playhouse are encouraging community members to read the work, attend the discussion and see the production.
