WESTPORT, CT — Fourth of July activities in Westport could have extra sparkle in 2026, the 250th anniversary, or semiquincentennial, of the Declaration of Independence.
The holiday falls on a Saturday in the middle of a three-day weekend, July 3-5. To help you fit it all in on your 4th of July calendar, Patch has put together a guide to fireworks and other celebrations in Westport and the surrounding areas.
July 4 Festivities
What: Westport Independence Day Fireworks Celebration

The Westport PAL Fireworks* take place at Compo Beach, and is a ticketed event. Tickets can be purchased at the Westport Police Department, 50 Jesup Road, and at the Parks and Recreation Office, 260 Compo Road South. CASH OR CHECK ONLY.

Celebrations around the country recall not only the events leading up to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, but also look forward and aim to make the 4th of July weekend a massive, multigenerational cultural moment focused on community connections and charitable giving.
America’s Block Party, an unprecedented coast-to-coast initiative, is one of the signature events of America 250, the congressionally chartered nonprofit overseeing the semiquincentennial celebration.
A Times Square Ball Drop, a rolling series of ball drops, timed to occur at midnight on July 3 in every U.S. time zone from Guam to American Samoa, is part of the “Giving 4th Broadcast Benefit Show,” creating a nearly 24-hour celebration of the 250th anniversary. It’s part of the broader “Giving 4th” initiative that aims to make and establish Independence Day the biggest annual day of giving.
A time capsule will be buried in Philadelphia to be opened in 2276 on July 4. It contains a carefully curated collection of letters and artifacts reflecting the leadership, institutions, and communities that shape the country today. It will include contributions from all three branches of the U.S. federal government and submissions from each of the 50 states, Washington D.C., and five territories.
Separately, the White House’s Freedom 250’s biggest spectacles are the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, running June 25 to July 10; the July 4 Salute to America Fireworks, also on the National Mall; “Sail 4th 250,” billed as the largest-ever flotilla of tall ships from around the world in New York Harbor; and Rushmore 250, an iconic 4th of July fireworks on July 3 alongside military concerts and live presidential reenactors.
Westport PAL Fireworks Traffic and Parking Advisory
The annual PAL fireworks display is set for Thursday, July 2, 2026, with a rain date of Friday, July 3, 2026. This is by far the largest annual Town of Westport event featuring extremely heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic directly affecting all roads south of Greens Farms Road between Compo Road South and Hillspoint Road as well as the surrounding streets.
It is strongly recommended that spectators plan the timing of their trip to the beach anticipating the significant delays associated with entering, parking and finding seating. Daytime Compo Beach visitors are reminded that the beach will be closed to the public at 4:00pm on the date of the event. At that time, only those vehicles with fireworks passes displayed on their rearview mirrors will be allowed to remain within the beach parking lot. All other vehicles will be ticketed and/or towed. The beach will then reopen to allow entry to ticket holders by no later than 5:00pm, however this determination will be made by Westport Parks and Recreation staff.
This year parking restrictions in the neighborhoods surrounding Compo Beach will be strictly enforced to keep all roads clear for the heavy traffic associated with the event. As a reminder, no parking will be allowed on Compo Road South and on Hillspoint Road. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and towed away at the owner’s expense. Please note that towed vehicles will be temporarily impounded and can be recovered at Lot F of the Longshore Club Park, located at 260 Compo Road South.
Pedestrians attending the fireworks are reminded not to walk on the roads and to use sidewalks when traveling to and from Compo Beach. It is recommended that pedestrians wear bright clothing, and it is asked that parents please keep an eye on small children. Fireworks crowds are always large and dense, making it easy to quickly become separated from children if not closely attended to.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you choose to use these methods of transportation, please be aware that return service will not be available/possible until 11:00pm or later due to one-way traffic exiting the beach area. (see below)
NOTICE FOR POST-FIREWORKS TRAFFIC:
Just prior to the conclusion of the fireworks display two-way traffic will be suspended on Compo Beach Road and South Compo Road to the intersection of Greens Farms Road. There will be two lanes of northbound traffic on these streets until the beach is cleared of exiting vehicles. Residents of this area will encounter delays in getting to their homes for approximately one hour or until traffic has cleared from the Compo Beach area and should plan accordingly. Those planning on picking up family members in the beach area should also expect delays. Motorists are reminded there will be a significant amount of vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the Compo Beach neighborhoods before and after the event and are asked to please exercise extreme caution while traveling through this area.
As always, members of the Westport Police Department, Fire Department, EMS and Parks and Recreation staff will be on hand to assist. We ask those who attend to please be patient and to obey the directions of traffic control personnel. Let’s all do our part to make this a safe and enjoyable evening for all!
