Westport Officials Issue Update On Storm Recovery & Power Restoration

WESTPORT, CT — Following the weekend's heavy rainstorm, Westport officials released the following update on storm recovery and power restoration in town, as of Monday afternoon:

Following Saturday's severe weather, Westport's Emergency Management Team remains in constant communication with Eversource as restoration efforts continue throughout town.

Eversource crews are actively working to restore power, but this is a significant regional event affecting communities across western Connecticut. Resources are being deployed throughout the region, with additional crews arriving to assist. Restoration work is progressing as quickly and as safely as possible.

There is also the potential for additional heavy rainfall later today. Westport is in a moderate risk zone for excessive rainfall through tonight, with the highest threat window between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Forecast is 2-3 inches of rain, locally 4+ inches, at rates of 1-2+ inches per hour. This could delay restoration efforts if conditions worsen.

The Department of Public Works, Westport Police, Fire Department, and Eversource continue to coordinate response efforts. Roads impacted by downed utility wires or poles cannot reopen until utility crews have secured the area and it is safe for Public Works crews to complete debris removal.

Town Update

The following is the current road status across Westport following storm-related tree and utility damage as of 11:00 a.m.

• 12 roads are closed and impassable due to downed trees, utility wires, or utility poles.
• 8 additional roads remain open to one lane with active wire hazards present. Motorists should use extreme caution and expect delays.
• 2 locations remain unverified and require field assessment to confirm current conditions.

Eversource Update

• Westport is one of five towns Eversource has flagged with the highest concentration of unresolved priority restoration events.

• Crews continue to prioritize clearing blocked roads before transitioning to broader power restoration as additional personnel begin their shifts.
• Approximately 100 customers had power restored overnight. As of this morning:
  • 668 customers remain without power across 58 outage events.
  • The three largest outage locations account for approximately 390 customers.
  • 36 of the remaining 55 outage locations involve single-customer outages.

Important Safety Reminders

Please continue to exercise caution while recovery efforts are underway.

• Always assume downed wires are energized. Stay well away from any fallen wires or damaged utility equipment.
• Pedestrians, cyclists, runners, and motorists should use extra caution when traveling.
• Children should not play near downed trees, as hidden live electrical wires may be present.

Generator and Carbon Monoxide Safety

To protect yourself and your family:

• Operate all generators—portable or permanently installed—outside in a well-ventilated area, at least 10–15 feet away from doors, windows, and vents.
• Never operate a generator inside a home or an attached garage, even if the garage door is open.
