Westport P&Z Advances Saugatuck Marina Zoning review

The commission also heard a pre-application proposal for 165-unit Riverside Avenue development project.

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Planning and Zoning Commission voted this week to move a potential zoning text amendment affecting the General Business District/Saugatuck Marina area into a subcommittee for further review, while also providing preliminary feedback on a proposed mixed-use residential development at 606 Riverside Ave.

During a pre-application discussion, commissioners reviewed a proposal submitted by attorney Adam J. Blank for redevelopment of 606 Riverside Ave. The proposal includes 165 residential units, with 10 percent of the units deed-restricted as affordable housing, along with a complementary mixed-use component and 283 parking spaces.

Because the matter was a pre-application review, the commission did not take formal action on the proposal. Instead, commissioners provided feedback to the applicant, according to the meeting minutes.

Later in the meeting, the commission held a work session on a potential amendment to Section 24C of the town's zoning regulations governing the General Business District/Saugatuck Marina (GBD/SM).

Commissioner Michael Cammeyer moved to refer the proposed text change to a subcommittee for discussion on July 22. Commissioner Bre Injeski seconded the motion.

The motion passed 5-1.

Voting in favor were Chair Paul Lebowitz and Commissioners Michael Calise, Michael Cammeyer, Bre Injeski and Craig Schiavone. Commissioner Patrizia Zucaro voted against the motion. There were no abstentions.
