Westport Selectmen To Consider Early Voting Grant, Ambulance Transfer

WESTPORT, CT — Westport's Board of Selectmen is scheduled to consider accepting more than $18,000 in state funding to support early voting, along with the transfer of a new ambulance to town ownership, during its meeting Wednesday morning.

The Board of Selectmen, acting at various times as the Local Traffic Authority (LTA) and Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA), will meet at 9 a.m. in the Westport Town Hall Auditorium, 110 Myrtle Ave. The meeting will be held in person and livestreamed on the town's website, with a broadcast on Westport's Optimum Government Access Channel 79 subject to availability. Among the financial items, the board is scheduled to consider authorizing First Selectman Kevin Christie to execute an agreement to receive $18,003.26 in a State of Connecticut Early Voting Grant. The funding would support the implementation and administration of early voting in Westport.

The board also is expected to consider accepting the transfer of ownership of a 2025 Freightliner M2 106plus custom ambulance from Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service to the Town of Westport under the town's gift policy.

Another agenda item calls for the board to consider accepting a $5,400 donation from the Westport Weston Foundation to the Department of Human Services Campership Program.

The selectmen are also scheduled to review and approve a renewal of the town's consulting contract with Marsh McLennan Agency for workers' compensation, property and casualty insurance consulting, case management, and support for the safety and health committees serving both the town and the Board of Education.

The board may also approve refunds for tax overpayments, following a recommendation from the town tax collector and in accordance with state law.

In a property-related matter, the selectmen are expected to review a request for a waiver of the town's policy on encroachments onto town property involving a stone wall within the town right-of-way at 19 Center St. The request is contingent on approvals from relevant town departments and execution of an easement and hold harmless agreement.

Acting as the Local Traffic Authority, the board is scheduled to consider approving temporary road closures and parking restrictions for the 2026 Slice of Saugatuck event, sponsored by the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce. The proposal includes closing Railroad Place and establishing temporary no parking along part of Riverside Avenue from the evening of Sept. 25 through Sept. 26, with rain dates of Oct. 2-3.

As the Water Pollution Control Authority, the board is also expected to consider requests for supplemental sanitary sewer connections at 24 Compo Road North and 127 Imperial Ave., each contingent on conditions outlined by the WPCA general manager.
