WESTPORT, CT — A New Jersey woman accused of using another person's identity to conduct fraudulent transactions at banks in Shelton and Westport was recently arrested, the Shelton Police Department announced Tuesday.
In a news release, Police Det. Sgt. Colin Bitsco said an investigation determined a suspect used another person's identity to conduct fraudulent transactions at TD Bank branches in Shelton and Westport.
Detectives working in coordination with law enforcement agencies in Connecticut and Massachusetts later identified the suspect as Tierra Smikle, 26, of New Jersey, according to Bitsco.
Smikle was arrested on a warrant and charged with third-degree forgery, fourth-degree larceny, third-degree identity theft and criminal impersonation.
She was released after posting a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court, according to Bitsco.
"Stay alert," Bitsco said in a news release. "Monitor your bank and credit card accounts, watch for skimmers, identity theft and check fraud, and report suspicious activity right away."
