As summer draws to a close, the first day of school is rapidly approaching.

WESTPORT, CT — Back-to-school planning is well underway in Westport, with the 2026–27 public school calendar available to help parents prepare for the first day in Westport Public Schools.

The first day of school for public school students in Westport is Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Below are some of the important dates heading into the upcoming school year. Some dates are subject to change:

Westport Public Schools:

First Day: Aug. 25, 2026
Labor Day: Sept. 7 - Schools Closed
Rosh Hashanah: Sept. 12 - Schools Closed
Early Dismissal: Sept. 18
Yom Kippur: Sept. 21 - Schools Closed
Early Dismissal: Oct. 16
Election Day; Professional Development: Nov. 3 - Schools Closed
Thanksgiving Recess: Nov. 25 (Early Dismissal), Nov. 26 and 27
Winter Recess: Dec. 23 (Early Dismissal), Dec. 24 through Jan. 1
Early Dismissal/Professional Development: Jan. 22
Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Jan. 18 - Schools Closed
Presidents' Day/February Recess: Feb. 12 (Early Dismissal), Feb. 15 through 19 - Schools Closed
Professional Development: March 19 - Schools Closed
Good Friday: March 26 - Schools Closed
Spring Recess: April 9 (Early Dismissal); April 12 through 16 - Schools Closed
Memorial Day - May 31 - Schools Closed
Early Dismissal: June 10
Last Day Of School; Early Dismissal: June 11

(Note: "There are 5 snow days built into the calendar. If there are no snow days students' last day will be June 11. For a 6th snow day, the March professional development day will become a student day, and the PD will move to the end of the school year. For 7 or 8 snow days, the student calendar will be reduced to 180 days. For 9+ snow days, April vacation days will convert into school days beginning with Monday, April 12.")
