Westport Police Issue Warning About Fraudulent Arrest Warrant Scam

WESTPORT, CT — Westport police have issued a warning to be on the lookout for fraudulent arrest warrants being sent to residents.

The scam documents appear official, along with names, case numbers or other information, in an effort to make their claims appear legitimate and pressure recipients into sending money or providing personal information.

Police advised residents who receive a suspicious document, phone call, email or text message claiming to be from law enforcement not to send money or provide personal or financial information.

Anyone unsure whether a communication from law enforcement is legitimate should contact the police department directly using a known, verified phone number. Police said the department can confirm whether a communication is legitimate.
