Westport School Board To Review Student Needs, Enrollment And Staffing

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Board of Education is scheduled to consider student needs assessment surveys and policies involving rentals and reimbursements when it meets Thursday, Sept. 3.

Both matters are listed for discussion and possible action on the board's agenda.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Staples High School, 70 North Ave., followed by a planned executive session for discussion of an attorney-client privileged memorandum.

The board is scheduled to resume its public session at 7 p.m. in Cafeteria B, Room 301, at Staples High School.

Among the discussion items, Superintendent Thomas Scarice is scheduled to present his report on the start of the 2026-27 school year.

The board also is expected to discuss a student enrollment report and a staffing report, both presented by John Bayers.

Scarice is also scheduled to discuss a calendar of Board of Education agenda items covering September 2026 through June 2027.

Two items are listed for both discussion and possible action. Michael Rizzo is scheduled to present student need assessment surveys, while Elio Longo is scheduled to address rentals and reimbursements.

The board is also scheduled to consider minutes from its Aug. 20 meeting.

Thursday's meeting will be held in person at Staples High School and can also be viewed on Cablevision Channel 78 or through a video stream on the Westport Public Schools website.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION WELCOME USING THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:

• Comment on non-agenda topics will occur during the first 15 minutes except when staff or guest presentations are scheduled.
• Board will not engage in dialogue on non-agenda items.
  Public may speak as agenda topics come up for discussion or information.
• Speakers on non-agenda items are limited to 2 minutes each, except by prior arrangement with chair.
• The Board may modify these limitations at the beginning of a meeting if the number of persons wishing to speak makes it advisable to do so.
• Speakers on agenda items are limited to 3 minutes each, except by prior arrangement with chair.
• Speakers must give name and address, and use microphone.
• Per Board policy, speakers must be a town resident, employee, student, or a parent/guardian of an enrolled student Responses to questions may be deferred if answers not immediately available.
• Public comment is normally not invited for topics listed for action after having been publicly discussed at one or more meetings.
