2 New York Men Accused Of February Vehicle Theft In Westport: Police

WESTPORT, CT — Two New York men have been charged in connection with the February theft of a vehicle from a Westport dealership, police said.

Jancarlos Castillo, 25, of Manhattan, and Jeffrey Jimenez, 24, of the Bronx, were each charged last week with first-offense larceny of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit first-offense larceny of a motor vehicle.

On the afternoon of Feb. 25, an employee of Volvo of Westport contacted police to report that a 2022 Rivian had been stolen, according to police.

A tracking feature in the vehicle showed its location at 1320 Post Road East in Westport, police said. Officers responded and found the vehicle parked and unoccupied behind the property.

Surveillance footage indicated the suspects in the vehicle theft may have been the same people involved in an overnight burglary that occurred that day near where the Rivian was recovered, according to police. The burglary investigation remains active, and no arrests have been made in that case.

Following an investigation by the Westport Police Department's detective bureau and information sharing with other agencies, police identified Castillo and Jimenez as suspects in the vehicle theft. Arrest warrants were subsequently obtained for both men.

Police said the New Haven Correctional Center contacted the department on Sept. 17 to report that Castillo and Jimenez were scheduled to be released from the facility. Westport officers responded and took both men into custody on the outstanding warrants.

Castillo and Jimenez were taken to Westport Police Headquarters and formally charged. A court set bond at $150,000 for each man.

Both remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Oct. 21.
