WESTPORT, CT — A Westport restaurant owner was among three Connecticut business owners arrested last week on charges related to violations of the state's workers' compensation laws, according to the Office of the Chief State's Attorney.

Investigators from the Workers' Compensation Fraud Control Unit, working with the state Department of Labor's Wage and Workplace Standards Division, determined that the restaurant operated without a workers' compensation insurance policy on two separate occasions.

Two other business owners were arrested as part of the investigations.

Luis Pomaquiza, 42, of Southington, owner of LA Roofing LLC in Middletown, was charged with defrauding a workers' compensation insurance carrier.

Investigators conducting roof replacement site visits in Southington, in coordination with the Department of Labor, determined that the company had multiple employees working who were not reported to its insurance carrier.

Jordan Tyler, 36, of Marlborough, owner of J.A.T. Builders LLC in East Hartford, was charged with noncompliance with workers' compensation insurance requirements.

According to investigators, an employee was injured while working for the company when it did not have an active workers' compensation insurance policy.

As a result, Connecticut's Second Injury Fund was ordered to pay more than $25,000 in combined benefits to the injured employee and medical providers.

All three defendants were processed on arrest warrants and released on $10,000 non-surety bonds.

Sade is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Oct. 29. Tyler is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Oct. 23, while Pomaquiza is scheduled to appear in Middletown Superior Court on Tuesday.

The charges are accusations, and all three defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
