WESTPORT, CT — Meghan Scheck, an English teacher at Staples High School, has received the University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award after being nominated by a student admitted to the university's Class of 2030.
The award recognizes educators who have made a significant impact on students' academic development and personal lives.
Each year, newly admitted University of Chicago students are invited to nominate an educator who played an important role in their education and helped shape their intellectual growth.
Scheck was nominated by an incoming student who credited her with contributing to their intellectual development.
"When a student heading to the University of Chicago looks back and credits your guidance for their intellectual growth, it shows that the daily effort to build learning reaches students in ways that last," said Jess DiBuono, coordinator of English language arts for grades 6-12 for Westport Public Schools.
Recipients of the Outstanding Educator Award receive a commemorative award, certificate and letter containing details from the student who nominated them. The university also notifies recipients' principals and superintendents of the recognition.
Additional information about the award is available on the University of Chicago's website.
