Westport, August 2012—Child Advocates of Connecticut (CAC) has appointed Elaine Harris of Westport
President of their Board of Directors. Elaine became involved with CAC two years ago, when she received her Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) training. She has since been involved in supporting and building the organization’s technology infrastructure. She was invited onto the Board earlier this year and agreed to become President in July 2012. “I am proud and honored to be elected President of the Board of Child Advocates of Connecticut,” says Ms. Harris. “This organization has done a remarkable job establishing itself as an integral member of the community supporting at-need children over the past two years. I hope that, under my tenure, Child Advocates of Connecticut’s ability to reach and support many more children will expand even further.”
Ms. Harris graduated Tufts University with a BS in Mathematics and subsequently received her MBA from the Wharton School. Her professional career spanned over 15 years in the investment management business, working for
Fidelity Investments, Alliance and General Electric. She always has had a special interest in children in need, volunteering and supporting causes like Kids-in-Crisis and the Bacharach Center in Westport. In three of the past five
years, she has traveled to Romania to work in a clinic/hospital for children, many of whom are severely handicapped. Elaine Harris is married with two
children, one attending Tufts Universiety and the other at the Hopkins School in New Haven.
“The Board of Directors of Child Advocates of Connecticut is so excited that Elaine has assumed the role of Board President,” says CAC board member John Peyton. “Elaine’s extensive background in business and her commitment to the interests of children in need uniquely qualify her to
lead CAC as it heads into the next phase of its growth and development.”

Child Advocates of Connecticut is a nonprofit organization that supports children in juvenile protection proceedings to secure a safe, permanent and nurturing home. CAC recruits and trains community volunteers to be appointed by the court as Guardian ad Litem (GAL). Volunteers work in collaboration with the Department of Children and Families, Child Protective Attorneys, schools and local community providers. The organization serves children from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds that have been abused or neglected. Many of them are placed in safe homes or treatment facilities and are given consistent
adult attention. Visit www.ctchildadvocates.org for information regarding volunteer programs, donation opportunities and news and events relevant to child advocacy.
