Bonnie Hammer of Westport Named Most Powerful Woman in Hollywood

Hammer, who heads NBC Universal's cable operations and lives in town, topped Hollywood Reporter's list.

Bonnie Hammer, chairman of NBCUniversal’s Cable Entertainment Group, was recently ranked No. 1 in the Hollywood Reporter’s list of 100 most powerful women in Hollywood.

Hammer, in her mid-60s, typically can be seen watching a new episode of one of her networks’ shows on the train into Manhattan. Her networks, which account for over half of NBCUniversal’s revenues, can be watched by more than 129 million viewers a week, include Bravo, SyFy, USA Network and NBC Sports.

In 2013, she was put in charge of all of the NBCUniversal entertainment cable networks, which have more than 2,000 employees, according to Hollywood Reporter. NBCUniversal has a “Stamford Media Center” for some talk shows in downtown Stamford, and NBC Sports is also in Stamford.

Hammer, which Forbes magazine called “the most powerful woman in cable television” earlier this year (she made only No. 41 on that magazine’s list of “100 Women Who Lead the World,” but how many women, even in Westport, are leading the world? Gotta be a pretty short list, right?).
