The American Kitefliers Association (AKA) was founded in 1964 by
the late Robert M. Ingraham of New Mexico. Currently the organization has over
3,000 members in 25 countries. Its purpose is to educate the public in the art, history, technology, and practice of building and flying kites. Each year
AKA declares April as National Kite Month, encouraging members to organize
events and promote kite building and flying.
The AKA website (aka.kite.org) is a great resource for both the casual kiter or the advanced competitive flyer. If you are interested in attending a kite festival, most (if not all) major events are listed on their calendar. In addition, you can find local retailers, instructions for building kites, safety tips, and tutorials.
Members receive a quarterly magazine with great articles and pictures. Many kite stores and on-line websites selling kites give a 10% discount to AKA members.
You can join local kiters at Sherwood Island State Park on
Wednesdays at 5:00pm from now until the end of September. For
the month of April, we will be giving free lessons on how to fly a dual line
stunt kite (kites will be provided). Wind conditions will be reported on Twitter at USAKiters at 4:30pm.

Until then, it would be great to hear from you.
