Brush Fire Extinguished In Westport: Fire Department
The fire was reported Thursday afternoon near Interstate 95.

WESTPORT, CT — Firefighters extinguished a brush fire on the northbound side of Interstate 95 in Westport Thursday afternoon, according to fire officials.
The blaze was reported at about 1:45 p.m. between exits 18 and 19, which not only snarled traffic, but also required a temporary halt to Metro-North and Amtrak train service nearby, as the fire crossed over the train tracks before it was doused.
In addition to Westport firefighters, members of the Wilton and Weston fire departments also responded with water tanker trucks to provide water. Firefighters from Fairfield also assisted in battling the blaze from Gray Lane.

The fire was contained to a 1.5-acre area, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
