Westport, CT – On Sunday November 1, the musical genius of Paul Simon will be in full throttle at First Folk Sunday. Suzanne Sheridan and her band will be performing the iconic songs of Paul Simon at the once-a-month, Westport-based, folk music series that always takes place at the beautiful Saugatuck Rowing Club. Joining Suzanne on keyboards will be Bob Cooper with Stuart Woods on bass and Howard Kesten on Cajón. Singing harmony with Suzanne will be special guest Melissa Capezio. This is a rare opportunity to hear two great female vocalists singing harmony on iconic Simon songs such as “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “The Sound of Silence,” “Slip Sliding Away,” “Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover,” “The Boxer,” “Still Crazy After All These Years,” and so many more.
As kids, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel lived just a few blocks apart in the Kew Gardens area of Queens. In 1953, they both attended PS 163 and they both appeared in a sixth-grade school adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland,” which launched their lifelong friendship and musical partnership and a career that is the stuff of musical legend. Between 1956 and 1958 they performed as the musical duo, ‘Tom and Jerry’ – a subtle nod to the MGM cartoon characters.
But as ‘Simon and Garfunkel’ they made musical history.
The First Folk Sunday series has covered many legendary folk music songwriters such as Woody Guthrie, John Prine, John Denver, Cheryl Wheeler, and Peter Paul and Mary. The First Folk Sunday production team is very honored to add Paul Simon to this illustrious list.
