Car Crash Leads to Marijuana Arrest in Westport: Police
The talents of Westport K-9 Off. "Chase" came into play during the Monday incident on Bridge Street.

WESTPORT, CT — A 38-year-old Milford man was arrested on narcotics charges Monday after police found a stash of marijuana in his vehicle following a car crash on Bridge Street in Westport.
Jason Bascom was charged with Possession of Marijuana Greater than ½ ounce and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia following the 1 p.m. crash near Imperial Avenue. No injuries were reported.
According to Westport police, Off. Jim Baker responded to the scene of the accident and allegedly detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the Bascom's vehicle.

Westport K-9 Off. Chase, a yellow labrador retriever trained in narcotics detection, was brought in "and
subsequently located 18.2 grams of marijuana along with paraphernalia in a compartment within the rear passenger area of the vehicle," said police in a statement.
Bascom was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 7.
