Car Fire Extinguished After Accident On I-95 In Westport: FD
Fire officials said the accident involved a tractor trailer and a car.

WESTPORT, CT — Westport firefighters responded Friday night to an accident involving a tractor trailer and a car on Interstate 95 southbound between exits 19 and 18. The incident occurred at approximately 11:37 p.m., fire officials said.
According to a news release, firefighters located the tractor trailer, which was partially down an embankment, and the car, which was on fire. All occupants were out of the vehicles when firefighters arrived, according to Assistant Chief Brian Meadows.
No injuries were reported. Fairfield firefighters were also responded due to the location of the incident.

Meadows said engine companies extinguished the fire and provided patient care along with Westport EMS, and the Rescue Company assessed the tractor trailer to make sure it was stabilized in place.
Meadows said one of the diesel tanks was found to be ruptured, however firefighters were able to confine and contain the leaking fuel. The spill was subsequently cleaned up by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and a Hazmat clean-up crew before the trailer was moved.

State police assisted in controlling traffic along with the Department of Transportation, Meadows said.
All three lanes of the interstate were shut down for an extended period of time as a result of the incident, and the last fire department unit left the scene at 5:12 a.m. on Saturday, Meadows said.
