'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory' At Bedford Middle School 4/29-5/1

The show will be performed by the school's sixth graders.

The following announcement is from Bedford Acting Group:

WESTPORT, CT — Roald Dahl’s amazing tale is now Westport’s golden ticket! On April 29th, 30th, and May 1st, Bedford Middle School’s sixth graders will be stepping onto the middle school stage for the first time to perform the play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The show will feature fun audio visual and special effects, including live reporter video feeds, and some wacky surprises in the Wonka factory. It will have a 1970’s vibe, with costumes reflecting the time period, and a set flooded with vibrant color tones. The audience should be prepared for some candy surprises as well.

Nearly two dozen seventh and eigth grade student directors, who are veterans to the stage, assist
at rehearsals to help run scenes and lines, create blocking, make suggestions on character
choices, and step in to read when students are absent. They are also making cameo appearances
as extras in the show.

The 6th graders find the student directors both relatable and helpful. Dylan Robbin, a sixth grader
who plays Grandpa Joe in the play, says, “The directors helped me a lot with my lines, and gave
me some good ideas about creating my character.” Cat Betit, an eighth grade student director
says, “I’ve always been on the acting side of the table and it is now great to experience being on
the other side for once. I wasn’t sure how I would like it, but I am having so much fun in this
role.”

Tickets can be bought on the website Bedfordactinggroup.com. Shows are Friday, April 29th at
7:30 pm, Saturday, April 30th at 2 pm and 7:30 pm, and Sunday, May 1st at 2 pm.
