WESTPORT, CT — Westport Pride, in collaboration with The Westport Library, is delighted to announce a special event featuring Dr. Alan Downs, renowned clinical psychologist and acclaimed author. Dr. Downs will be discussing his internationally celebrated book, The Velvet Rage: Overcoming the Pain of Growing Up Gay in a Straight Man’s World, on June 27th at 6:30 PM at the Westport Library.

Dr. Downs’ book, which has been published in over 27 languages, addresses the profound challenges faced by gay men in a predominantly heterosexual world. The Velvet Rage offers a poignant exploration of the emotional struggles and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community and has garnered praise for its insightful and compassionate approach.

With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Downs is a sought-after conference speaker, workshop leader, and media commentator. His expertise in the psychology of gay men, combined with his intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), positions him as a leading voice in mental health. Dr. Downs consults with individuals and couples globally, offering valuable insights into mindfulness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills through the DBT framework.
